Rice (whole grain rice washed and soaked for half an hour) | 4 cups |
Boiled chickpeas (chana) | 2 cups(after boiling) |
Cooking oil | 1 cup |
Onions(chopped) | 100 grams(1 medium size) |
Ginger paste | ½ teaspoon |
Garlic paste | ½ teaspoon |
Tomatoes | 2 medium size |
Salt | 1 tablespoon |
Cumin seeds | 1 teaspoon |
Turmeric powder | ½ teaspoon |
Red chili powder | ½ teaspoon |
All spice powder (garam masala) | ½ teaspoon |
Green chilies | 1 or 2 chopped |
Coriander leaves | 2 tablespoons |
water | 8 cups |
Instructions
- In a cooking pot, add cooking oil and chopped onion, and fry until brown.
- Now add ginger and garlic paste and cook for 30 seconds.
- Then add all spices, salt and tomatoes(except green chilies and coriander leaves).
- Cook for 2 minutes and add boiled chick peas and cook for 5 minutes.
- After 5 minutes add 8 cups of water in it and boil.
- When it start boiling add soaked rice and cook them for 5 minutes on medium flame.
- After 5 minutes add coriander and green chilies in it and cover the pot, and cook at low flame until water dries up.
- The rice should be done in about ten minutes.
- serve with raita or any curry you like.
- Serve 4.
